Hi, I am James and I am 12 years old, currently studying at Ai Tong School. I have joined the Art CCA since Primary 3 and we mostly work with clay and Nagomi art in school. During the school holidays, I take some holiday art classes externally. During the circuit breaker, my sister and I doodled along alot with Mo Willems on youtube. I like to collect jokes and enjoy making friends. I love to doodle and draw cute objects. I have participated this year in the class T-shirt design contest and my design was selected. I have also submitted an entry for the Singapore Dreaming Comics competition in 2023. I play water polo at least once a week, which explains my skin tone. I’m pretty good in stamina as I ran the fastest for my 1.6km NAPFA test in class. My pet dog is my loyal and faithful companion.
My favourite art piece showcased here is the painting of my pet dog next to the fire hydrant. I used acrylic paint in there. The one that is most sentimental to me is the pair called ‘Ice Age’, I worked on this when I was quite young, but I have recently revised it to change the Saber Tooth tiger’s proportions and added shadows to the animals.
My favourite artist is Rene Magritte because his artworks inspire me as they force you to think about them. I was also really impressed by the details of the sculpture of ‘Standing Woman’ by Ron Mueck that I saw at the Towada Art Centre. Occasionally our school brings us for learning journeys and I have enjoyed the recent sessions to the Peranakan museum and to the National Gallery to view Chua Mia Tee’s works. I interacted with the docent then, to pretend to pose in the same way as the bust.
I like art, as it allows me to express my creativity and heightens my observational skills. I have recently discovered new mediums such as gouache, charcoal and photography, which are really exciting to me.
I hope you enjoy my work, and I hope to meet you soon.
