I shot this in a dark room, with handmade pillows fashioned out of an old t-shirt and some cotton pads. A square was put in front of the toy to cast a shadow, to simulate a TV in front of the minion.

Making a toy for a toy
For these photos, I had an idea of remaking a stll from the Minions show where Bob and Kevin were sitting on a bed watching television. But I only have the toy Bob. I made the tiny clay bear for my tiny toy Bob because I did not have this bear at home.

The Challenge
The challenge is the bear is so small, I had to wait for the clay to dry overnight before painting it.
The bear’s colour did not turn out well the first time. It has since been repainted again in a darker colour I wanted, for the reshoot.

Making more props and if time allows...
The photo was shot with a DSLR with a 24-70mm lens. My dad said I should have used a macro lens. I made these tiny popcorn boxes out of a printed template, and cut up some real popcorn to put inside. This clear blue case is on standby, to simulate blue light shining onto the minion’s face for the reshoot.

Reshoot
The second reshoot on 28 June 2024 with the macro lens ended up with the photo much sharper. In fact, the photo was so clear you could see that Bob’s glasses were not very clean. In the end I decided the original is still a more cohesive piece with the lighter shade of the bear showing clearly, with better textures of a real wall, with the bed looking more realistic, so I kept it.
